Modeloptic Product Update: July 22, 2024

We're excited to tell you about a few updates that we've just rolled out:

1) Dependency Tracing

If you expand any custom forecast line item, you'll now see a new option for tracing the dependencies of that line:

When you click on this new button, you'll see a screen that looks like this:

This screen shows you both the upstream and downstream nodes for the line you're scoped to, along with the current values of those lines. In other words, for a given line item, it will show you all of the lines that it depends on, as well as all of the lines that depend on it.

You can also click on any of the upstream or downstream lines shown within this screen to continue tracing the logic of your model in either direction.

This can give you great insight into how all of the pieces in your model come together, how they all relate to each other, and how changes in one area of your model flow through and impact other areas.

2) Recalculation Speed Improvements

We've made some significant changes to our recalculation engine, so you should now see responsiveness, save times, and recalculation times come down substantially, especially for larger, more complex models.

Most models will now be seeing a greater than 50% improvement on all of these dimensions.

3) Improved Circular Reference Tracing

If you happen to create a circular reference in your model, Modeloptic will now tell you exactly which line items are involved in the circular reference:

If you're using a multi-entity structure within Modeloptic, this also includes cross-entity circular references.

This extra detail should make circular references much easier to resolve if and when they arise.

We hope these new additions will help make you more productive! As always, if you ever have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!
